The City of Wilmington Office of Emergency Management conducts Community Emergency Response Team Training (CERT). Classes included several representatives of the business community and the Wilmington Fire Department Explorers. Students participate in a 16-hour course including classroom training and hands-on training. Participants receive training from Emergency First Responders and instructors trained through the Federal Emergency Management Agency at the Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland on the eight phases of the CERT Program including:

  1. Emergency Preparedness
  2. Fire Safety
  3. Emergency Medical Operations
  4. Light Search and Rescue
  5. CERT Organization
  6. Disaster Psychology
  7. Terrorism
  8. Community Emergency Response

Upon completion of the course participants receive a certificate and a CERT Response Equipment Kit.
