Home MenuTemporary Suspension of Sign Ordinance
The City of Wilmington is temporarily suspending enforcement of portions of its sign ordinance. Wilmington’s City Code prohibits signs (including political signs) or advertisements from being placed or posted on park property, on poles, lampposts, tree boxes, piers, or columns on or along the streets and sidewalks of the city as well as within the public right-of-way.
Starting this Sunday, October 6, 2024, the City will suspend enforcement of the placement of signs in the public right-of-way only for 30 days preceding and for 10 days following the General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The City will continue to prohibit placement of signs in city parks, on poles, on lampposts, piers, or columns on or along city streets and sidewalks. Signs within the public right-of-way will be permitted during this 40-day period unless a sign poses either a public safety concern or interferes with the passage of pedestrians and traffic.
Again, signs may be placed within the public right-of-way beginning Sunday, October 6, 2024, and must be removed no later than the end of the day on Friday, November 15, 2024.
