DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual contributor that provides nursing care for employment-related illnesses or injuries and emergency treatment and referral for non-employment-related injuries or illnesses of City employees. This position reports to the Occupational Health, Safety & Loss Prevention Program Manager. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates and administers preventative vaccines, conducts hearing and vision tests, annual physical examinations, and blood pressure screening.
  • Administers health and wellness training and programs and participates in health and wellness fairs.
  • May serve on various City Health and Wellness Councils. Provides nursing care for employment-related illnesses or injuries and emergency treatment and referral for non-employment-related injuries or illnesses of City employees.
  • Provides ongoing training in CPR/AED, as well as other occupational health classes and case management of employee illnesses and injuries.
  • Performs administrative tasks, including documentation of illnesses and injuries using word processing, spreadsheets, and database input.
  • Oversees and administers the following policies: Noise Control Hearing Conservation Program - Policy 616.2, Thermal Stress – Policy 623.2, Bloodborne Pathogens – Policy 625.1, and others as needed.
  • Serves as backup presenter for the Health and Safety portion of New Hire Orientation
  • Assist with office duties, including greeting patients, answering the phone, and worker’s compensation claims as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A degree from an accredited college or university with four (4) degrees in nursing or an associate degree with five (5) years of experience is preferred. Preferred: Must possess a valid LPN license. Must obtain Audiometric, EKG, and CPR certification within six (6) months of employment.

  • Knowledge: Strong pharmaceutical and drug interaction knowledge. Current knowledge of community health care resources. Knowledge of basic nutrition principles (fuel intake/energy output) and weight loss methods. Must have a thorough understanding of Delaware Worker’s Compensation Laws and Procedures. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
  • Skills:  Extensive nursing skills acquired through experience in occupational health environments and/or urgent care settings.
  • Abilities: Ability to identify patient’s physical and emotional symptoms. Ability to interpret lab reports and write accurate case histories. Ability to write precise descriptions of a patient’s conditions, which meet legal requirements, ensure continuity of care, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Licenses: Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

All selected applicants must pass a criminal background investigation and have a pre-employment physical.

  • Work is typically performed in an office, seated at a desk utilizing a computer and examination rooms.
  • Work requires employees to frequently sit, stand, talk, or hear.
  • Required to walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, medical equipment, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Compensation encompasses both salary administration and a comprehensive benefit package:

  • Salary Administration:  New employees are hired at the starting and up to the median salary based on qualifications and internal equity. Annual merit increases are provided based on a satisfactory performance review.

Sick Leave: Accumulates at the rate of one day for each completed month of service, beginning after the first full month of employment.

Vacation: At least eight (8) hours* of vacation per month after the completion of the first six (6) months* of continuous employment until the next January 1. Each January 1 thereafter, employee will be credited with at least ninety-six (96) hours* of vacation for the calendar year, until the completion of five (5) years of continuous service.

Holiday: Eligible employees receive holiday pay from date of hire, View City Holidays

Life Insurance: The City agrees to provide term life insurance for each eligible employee for a maximum of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) at no cost.

Pension: Eligible employees are able to participate in the State Pension Plan you will contribute 6% of your bi-weekly base pay.
