PRIMARY FUNCTION
- Performs semi-skilled work in the operation and maintenance of standard trucks, tractors, riding mowers, or other simple to moderately complex automotive equipment.
- Responsible for continuous, safe, and efficient operations of automotive equipment in performing such tasks as grass cutting in parks and transporting men and materials to and from work sites.
- May require the performance of manual labor in loading or unloading material, landscaping, or other related tasks.
- Occasionally involve exercising supervisory control over a small group of unskilled workers. Performs other related duties as assigned.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Loads and transports bleachers, playground equipment, lawn mowers, and other construction and/or maintenance materials and equipment.
- Transports men and materials to various job sites.
- Operates power tractors with grass attachments in City parks and lots. May operate chain saw.
- Sprays herbicide. Remove dead animals and dog feces from parks.
- Washes and performs preventive maintenance of assigned vehicles.
- Grades ball fields and areas to be seeded with tractor and various attachments.
- May assist with painting, litter, and leaf removal, plowing snow, grass mowing, planting trees and plants and other landscaping activities.
- Possess and maintain a valid “CDL” Class B driver’s license; good driving record, and ability to pass drug screening as mandated by the Federal Department of Transportation for CDL drivers.
- Performs all related work as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Possess and maintain a valid “CDL” Class B driver’s license.
- Completion of high school or GED equivalency; with some experience in operation of complex grounds maintenance equipment
- Some landscaping knowledge: or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Must be willing to work in inclement weather year-round, extended hours, weekends and overtime as needed.
- Thorough knowledge of traffic laws involved in the operation of automotive equipment.
- Ability to operate a variety of automotive and grounds maintenance related equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ability to detect operating defects in automotive and grounds maintenance equipment.
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and physically able to lift items weighing over 50 lbs.
- Some knowledge in the safe and efficient operation of tractors, zero-turn mowers, bat wing mowers, skid steers, backhoes, leaf vacuums, and/or other landscaping equipment.
- Some experience in commercial snow removal operations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works outside (in all weather) and is frequently near moving mechanical parts and vibration. Noise level is usually loud.
- Occasionally works in high, precarious places and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
- Occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and smell.
- Ability to lift or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
Must pass a criminal background investigation, pre-employment physical, and drug test.

Sick Leave: Accumulates at the rate of one day for each completed month of service, beginning after the first full month of employment.
Vacation: At least eight (8) hours* of vacation per month after the completion of the first six (6) months* of continuous employment until the next January 1. Each January 1 thereafter, employee will be credited with at least ninety-six (96) hours* of vacation for the calendar year, until the completion of five (5) years of continuous service.
Holiday: Eligible employees receive holiday pay from date of hire, View City Holidays
Life Insurance: The City agrees to provide term life insurance for each eligible employee for a maximum of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) at no cost.
Pension: Eligible employees are able to participate in the State Pension Plan you will contribute 6% of your bi-weekly base pay.
Deferred Compensation Plan: Optional employee contributory plan available.
Live Near Your Work Program: Homebuyer Assistance program to provide up to $4,000 in homebuyers assistance for newly hired employees, first time homebuyers, and those employees choosing to purchase a residence in one of the City’s unique and culture-blended neighborhoods.
