Wilmington 311

There’s just one number to call for ALL City government services - 311. That’s it. That’s the only number you need to request a service, ask for information, make a suggestion or lodge a concern. It’s quick, simple and easy. You can also access Wilmington 311 online at WilmingtonDE.gov/311. We’re providing improved government service to Wilmington residents and businesses!

Preparing and Placing Your Trash:

  1. Place in the trash only those items that will spoil or cannot be recycled.
  2. Close and tie trash bags, place bags in SMART trash bins.
  3. Place trash cans curbside between 6:00 p.m. the day before collection and 4:00 a.m. the day of collection.
  4. Remove trash cans from the curb no later than 6:00 p.m. on the day of collection.

Recyclables - YES

Place only these items loose, empty and clean into your recycle cart.

  • Magazines, junk mail, paper bags, office paper, newspaper, etc.
  • Plastic containers, cans, bottles, jars, cartons, cardboard.

Recyclables - NO

Keep these items out of your recycle cart.

  • Trash, shredded paper, garbage, food, styrofoam, or plastic bags.
  • Electronics, computers, broken window glass, mirrors, scrap metal or batteries.

Special Pickup

Special pickup is required for items exceeding 50 pounds or items unable to fit in trash cans. Call Wilmington 311 to schedule a special pickup. Such items may include mattresses, furniture, appliances (refrigerator doors must be removed), rugs, and clothes.

Yard Waste

Yard waste is collected on recycling days. Do not combine with trash.

EAST OF I-95 (Route A): Mondays & Thursdays

WEST OF I-95 (Route B): Tuesdays & Fridays

TRASH

Place in the trash only those items that will spoil or cannot be recycled. Close and tie trash bags, place bags in City-issued trash can. Place trash cans curbside between 6:00 p.m. the day before collection and 4:00 a.m. the day of collection. Remove trash can from curb no later than 6:00 p.m. after collection.

RECYCLE

Non-contaminated recyclables are disposed of at the landfill at no cost, so the more material you can take out of the trash and recycle, the more savings to the City and the taxpayers. Please follow the instructions on the back for details on what to recycle or go to dswa.com for the latest recycling guidelines and information on curbside recycling. The City strictly adheres to DSWA recycling policies.

SPECIAL PICK UP

Special pick up is required for items exceeding 50 lbs. or items unable to fit in a trash can. Call the Public Works Call Center at (302) 576-3878 to schedule a special pickup. Items may include mattresses, furniture larger than a recliner, appliances (refrigerator doors must be removed), rugs, and clothes. Scheduling may take up to a month, so please plan accordingly.
Do not place items curbside until the day before your scheduled appointment, otherwise you will be subject to an illegal dumping fine.

YARD WASTE

Yard waste must be placed in brown paper bags; do not combine with trash. Yard waste is collected on recycling days when staffing permits.

INCLEMENT WEATHER/LACK OF STAFFING

Sanitation collections may be canceled due to weather conditions or lack of staffing. If your collection is canceled, it will be made the following day (weather permitting).
