Washington Street Bridge Traffic Update

Posted on  06/01/2012 4:58 pm

Construction work continues on the paving/rehabilitation project underway on the Washington Street Bridge (original traffic advisory issued below). While the bridge is still open to traffic with intermittent lane closures, motorists are cautioned that the current road surface is extremely uneven due to the nature of the work in progress. DelDOT is making every effort to complete the project as quickly as possible—hopefully ahead of the original completion date (June 8). In the meantime, residents might wish to avoid the area all together and choose an alternative route across the Brandywine (e.g. Van Buren or Market Street Bridges).

Original Release (issued May 17)

TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Pavement & Rehabilitation Project Will Require Daytime Intermittent Lane Closures on Washington Street Bridge
May 21-June 8, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announced this week a pavement and rehabilitation project on the Washington Street Bridge (Washington Street between 14th Street and North Park Drive) that will require intermittent lane closures during daytime hours from Monday, May 21 through Friday, June 8 (depending upon weather). Lanes will be closed intermittently between 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Construction crews will be milling, patching, and applying hot-mix overlay on the roadway to prevent further deterioration of the pavement. Motorists might wish to plan an alternative route to avoid delays in the area.
