Robert A. Williams
7th District Council Member
Robert A. Williams was elected as a Wilmington City Councilman for the 7th District on November 6, 2012. Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Bob is a 1982 graduate of Wilmington High School. He has been a volunteer fire fighter since the age of 14. In 1996 he earned his Associates degree in Criminal Justice from Delaware Technical and Community College. After graduating he joined the Wilmington Police Department in 1989, where he served the city for over 20 years. During his tenure in the Department he held many positions: from Community Police Officer, to Community Supervisor, to Deputy Commander of Special Operations, and Commanding Officer of the Crisis Management Negotiations Team; he worked his way up the ranks to Lieutenant from which he retired in 2009. He earned many commendations and awards from three different Mayors, and also served on the City of Wilmington Pension Board as the secretary.
The last few years of his career were spent going back to school. In 2008 Bob earned a second degree as a Registered Nurse. Upon retiring, he was accepted into the Christiana Emergency Internship Program. He spent three years working in both the Christiana and Wilmington Hospital emergency rooms as a trauma nurse.
After his time at Christiana Care, Bob was recruited by the Attorney General’s Office. They brought him in as Medical Fraud Investigator. He worked with the Attorney General’s Office investigating fraud committed by both doctors and patients. When Bob decided to run for office and let the Attorney General know, he was then informed that he had to resign from his position to run. Because of his desire to serve the citizens of Wilmington again, Bob resigned and now works for Aetna as a Quality Management Nurse Consultant.
As Councilman of the 7th District, Bob will sustain the Seventh District Walking Group. He will walk the neighborhood with residents of the 7th District and get a “hands on” perspective of district issues. He will maintain collaboration with the West Side Crime Prevention Group. The mission of the group is to provide a forum for residents to work directly with the Wilmington Police Department to express concerns and work to combat crime. He will work directly with Council members Sherry Dorsey-Walker, 6th District, and Samuel Prado, 5th District, where he will serve as Co-Chairman. Bob will also hold the honorable position of Vice Chairman of the Wilmington Democratic City Committee 7th District.
Bob resides in Union Park Gardens with his wife Jordan Polifroni-Williams. He has four adult daughters.
