New Castle County Colonel, Elmer Setting, will swear in officers of the Wilmington Police Department, while Wilmington Police Chief, Christine Dunning, will swear in police officers from the New Castle County Police Department.

Newly sworn in officers of the Wilmington and New Castle County Police Department will be able to work more cooperatively and effectively when combating crime and apprehending suspects. Now, officers from both agencies can conduct investigations more efficiently, assist each other more regularly, and effectively apprehend criminals who use jurisdictional boundaries to elude apprehension.

Both law enforcement agencies remain responsible for protecting and serving their respective jurisdictions, and officers will not change their normally assigned patrol areas.

Remaining officers will be sworn in by Colonel Setting and Chief Dunning during the respective agencies’ roll calls.

The Grand Fondor will offer cyclists the unique opportunity to traverse a challenging 100-kilometer or the Medio Fondo 50-kilometer course linked by 13 cultural attractions, including stunning rides through world-class institutions such as Hagley Museum & Gardens, Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library and Mt. Cuba Center. The WGP Gran Fondo and Medio Fondo will start and finish at the Delaware Art Museum and wil loffer cyclists the privilege of passing through many of these attractions on the same ride. 3rd Annual Governor’s Ride will offer cyclists a less-challenging 15-mile course that also begins and ends at the Delaware Art Museum.

Mayor Dennis P. Williams notified Council President Theopalis K. Gregory, Sr. and the members of Council that in accordance with Sec 4-103 of the City Charter, he is exercising his right as Mayor to call a special meeting of Council.

The City Charter allows the Mayor to call a special meeting when required by public necessity. The purpose of this special meeting is the introduction of an amended operating budget ordinance for consideration by Council, ensuring the maximum amount of time is available for passage of a balanced budget by the Charter mandated May 31st deadline.
